As we celebrate 90 years of operation, Niagara Sawmilling continues to grow as a trusted and respected name in New Zealand’s timber industry.

With nearly a century of innovation, craftsmanship, and commitment behind us, we are proud to be attracting skilled and passionate individuals who share our values and vision for the future.

We are currently looking for a Compliance and Assurance Specialist to join our team in a part-time, on-site role based at our Kennington site. This position offers 15–20 hours per week and is ideally suited to someone who thrives on structure, takes pride in accuracy, and enjoys working autonomously in a role that truly matters.

While the role is intended to be around 20 hours per week, we offer flexibility and are open to additional hours for the right candidate. Please note that during the initial training period, approximately 30–40 hours per week will be required for 8–12 weeks. This can be adjusted to suit the right person. Our intention is to ensure the successful candidate gains a strong understanding of our business, our teams, our responsibilities and commitments, and our products before stepping fully into the role.

As Compliance and Assurance Specialist, you will take the lead in capturing and managing the critical metrics that support our industry certifications, export documentation, and quality standards. You will play an important role in ensuring we remain aligned with our commitments to various certifications and quality control frameworks.

This is a cross-departmental role that will see you working closely with production, export, and quality teams. You will be an integral part of our business operations, and we are looking for someone who is ready to make a long-term commitment and grow with us into the future.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Building and improving processes for managing, advising, and reporting on all matters of compliance and quality ensuring a proactive and systematic approach to meeting regulatory and certification obligations.
  • Building and maintaining strong internal and external relationships; fostering collaboration across departments and with certifying bodies and industry partners to ensure transparency, trust, and smooth audit processes.
  • Tracking product flow, completing monthly reconciliations, supporting internal and external audits, and ensuring document/system control is maintained and updated as required for FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council).
  • Maintaining and updating processes, systems, and QA standard operating procedures to meet compliance obligations and ensure certification/approval remains current for S Mark (product safety), Code Mark (building code compliance), Transitional Facility (MPI) Export Biosecurity (Customs).
  • Keeping informed of proposed changes to NZ/AUS Manufacturing Standards and assisting production teams to implement sustainable practices aligned with these requirements.
  • Supporting production teams to develop, implement, and maintain processes and SOPs that ensure our products meet both Niagara and customer expectations.
  • Developing, reviewing, and updating SOPs across production functions.
  • Contributing to the ongoing improvement of our processes, systems, products, and services.

We are looking for someone who is highly organised, has exceptional record-keeping abilities, and an eye for detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is essential, and confidence in learning new systems or software is vital. While experience in compliance, quality assurance, or documentation-heavy roles is highly valued, it’s not essential—we are equally interested in those with relevant skills from other backgrounds such as high-level administration, logistics, procurement, or project coordination.

More than anything, we want someone who reflects our values—someone wants to be an active team player, operating with integrity, taking ownership of their work, and is committed to doing things right.

This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a flexible yet impactful role within a supportive and forward-thinking business. If you are looking for work that is purposeful, detail-driven, and rooted in a company that truly values its people, we would love to hear from you.

To apply, please submit your CV and a cover letter detailing why you are interested in this role and why you would be the ideal fit for this opportunity online.
